2026: “I’m facing a goalpost without a goalkeeper” – APC candidate, Oyebamiji

By Tunde Olamilekan

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has expressed confidence that the party will win the election on 8 August.

The APC candidate likened his position in the upcoming 2026 governorship election to playing a penalty shot at a goalpost without a goalkeeper.

He stated this on Sunday in Osogbo during an interactive session with youths from the three senatorial districts.

The Ikire-born politician highlighted the importance of youth participation in elections and pledged to create programmes specifically catering to their needs.

“We conducted a demographic analysis of the 2022 election and found that party members voted 300,000, with youths comprising 210,000 of that number. I respect the youth immensely, and by God’s grace, there will be special programmes for you starting very soon,” he stated

In his metaphorical statement, Oyebamiji said, “God has given us a goalpost and a penalty without a goalkeeper.”

He urged party members to engage in grassroots campaigning, saying, “Let us go to our ward and begin house-to-house, door-to-door. I don’t have a competitor. APC does not have a competitor.”

Oyebamiji assured the youths that his administration would provide them with the resources necessary to succeed.
