Oyewumi, Salam to stay in PDP as Adeleke moves to Accord Party

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke will this week move to Accord Party as the platform for his re-election bid, osun.life gathered.

However, there were indications that some bigwigs of the party including the Senate Minority Deputy Leader, Lere Oyewumi and the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam, might not leave with the governor.

osun.life reports that Governor Adeleke late Monday night, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adeleke said his decision was due to persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Monday night, Adeleke confirmed that he submitted his resignation to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.

He stated, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.”

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Accord party in Osun has assured Governor Adeleke would receive a waiver if he chooses to contest the next governorship election on the party’s platform.

The Chairman of Accord Party in the state, Victor Akande, who disclosed this during the weekend, said Adeleke would be welcomed if he chose to join.

Akande said, “The political party door is always open. People are free to come in and also free to leave at any time they feel like. If he comes, we will give him a waiver to contest like every other person who may have an interest in coming. There is a standing waiver already in the party.”

Sources within the PDP said even though Oyewumi, Salam and other bigwigs of the party might not move to the Accord Party with Adeleke, they will still mobilise for his re-election.

A source who spoke with osun.life, said Oyewumi being the deputy minority leader would forfeit his position if he leaves the PDP now.

The source also said Salam, who is the chairman of the House committee on Public Accounts, will stay put in the PDP as leaving the party would relegate him in the Federal House of Representatives.

“This is an internal arrangement and it is expected. Oyewumi is the Senate deputy minority leader, and the position comes with certain privileges. If he were to dump the PDP today, he would have to leave that position and become a floor member.

“If things remain the same in the PDP, he will later decamp maybe when it is time for his own primaries. However, all his political structures will mobilise for Governor Adeleke.

“The same thing goes for Bamidele Salam. He is one of the best in the Federal House of Representatives, and he chairs one of the key committees in the House. He is not ready to leave that at least, not for now.

“His team will probably move with the governor and work to ensure Adeleke’s victory,” the source noted.

The source also confirmed that while majority of members of the House of Assembly caucus, House of Representatives caucus, Cabinet members would move to Accord Party with the Governor, some of the state executives of the PDP might stay put so as to guide against others taking over the party in the state.
