Bello mourns Oyeweso, says Ede, APC lost a rare gem

A former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello, has mourned the passing of the Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Siyan Oyeweso.

osun.life reports that Oyeweso died in the early hours of Tuesday after a brief illness.

Speaking on the sad event, Bello said the late Oyeweso was an icon of academics and a rare gem within the political space.

He prayed to Almighty God to grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

He said, “Nothing to say other than just mourn him and say Ede has lost one of the icons in the academic circle. In the APC family, we lost one of the rare gems. I pray that Almighty God will grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

Oyeweso was a renowned historian, respected academic, and tireless advocate for cultural heritage, Professor Oyeweso served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He also served as Acting Provost of the Postgraduate College at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), bringing to that position decades of teaching, research, and administrative experience.

Oyeweso distinguished himself through scholarly excellence, prolific writing since 1986, and a passionate commitment to preserving Nigerian history, Yoruba culture, and national identity.
