The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo and Egbedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to exercise greater willpower to enforce laws and implement policies against terrorism in the country.
Salam made the appeal on Wednesday during a special session at the House of Representatives to discuss the rising cases of insecurity in Nigeria.
The lawmaker also urged President Tinubu to address the problems of over 13 million Nigerian children who were out of school, adding that they were potential criminals if not taken care of.
In a Facebook post, the lawmaker said, “Today as the House of Representatives continue its special session to discuss rising cases of insecurity across the country, I spoke on the need for the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu today exercise greater willpower to enforce laws and implement policies against terrorism, banditry and all forms of criminality without fear or favour.
“I also charged the Federal Government to urgently address the problems of over 13 million Nigerian Children who are out of school, roaming the streets as beggars because they are the potential terrorists and kidnappers of tomorrow.”
Salam added that he also adopted the submissions of some of his colleagues on the urgent need to reform the Nigeria Police Force, create States and community policing systems and provide adequate and timely funding for the security agencies.
“Above all, I adopt the earlier submissions of some of my colleagues on the urgent need to reform the Nigeria Police Force, create States and community policing systems, provide adequate and timely funding for our security agencies, accelerate the trial of terrorism suspects, provide jobs for our teeming youths and maintain a zero tolerance for all acts of criminality across the country,” Salam added.
