Osogbo youths hold peaceful solo protest, demand end to killings

A handful of youths in Osogbo, Osun State, on Friday held a peaceful solo protest to condemn the rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and violent attacks plaguing various parts of Nigeria.

Armed with placards with inscriptions such as “We Say No To Killings,” “Protect Our Faith: Stop The Violence,” “We Demand Justice: Protect Christian Communities,” and “No Man Has The Right To Take Another Man’s Life,” the protesters marched through parts of the state capital.

They called on government authorities at all levels to prioritise citizens’ safety and take decisive action to halt the bloodshed.

One of the participants, Adeagbo Remilekun said the demonstration was a symbolic act to amplify the nation’s collective frustration, adding that even though their numbers were few, their message remained loud and urgent.

“We are out here because enough is enough. People are being killed and kidnapped every day, and it feels like nothing is being done. Our lives matter, and we need those in power to wake up,” he said.

The protesters appealed to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, state governments, and community leaders to rise to the occasion and implement measures that would restore peace and security across the country.
