Osun 2026: Oyebamiji set to resign as NIWA MD

By Tunde Olamilekan

A gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji is set to resign as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), ahead of the December 13 primary election of the party.

According to sources, Oyebamiji, who is one of the leading aspirants hoping to clinch the much coveted APC ticket for the August 08, 2026, election, will resign any moment from now.

The Osun APC currently has 13 aspirants who have shown interest in contesting the election against the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Ikire-born politician would have to resign this week in order to adhere to the one-month window of resignation from public office before the December 13 primary election.

In Nigeria, the law requires that public office holders and political appointees must resign from their positions if they wish to contest for elective offices.

This is based on the Electoral Act 2022, Section 84(12), which states that political appointees and public servants seeking elective positions must resign their appointments before participating in political activities.

The NIWA boss who is reportedly backed by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, would hope to clinch the APC ticket and win the August 08 election to take the state back for the APC.
