Osun APC calls out Adeleke, JUSUN over indefinite strike

By Tunde Olamilekan

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called out the state government over the ongoing industrial action by the state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria(JUSUN).

The APC said the judiciary has collapsed under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, adding that the 41-day strike by the JUSUN staff was a pointer.

The Osun APC in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the absence of exercise of judicial powers in Osun State for the past 41 days signifies anarchy and collective breach of citizens’ fundamental rights to have their affairs decided by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“It would be recalled that the recalcitrant state judiciary workers did the same thing last year when they went on strike for about four months without any repercussions from the state government, while the taxpayers’ money is being used to pay their salaries during the indefinite strike,” the statement stated.

The APC said the current administration is not bothered by the verifiable general lawlessness pervading the state, adding that the “constitutional and security implications of the indefinite strike of the Osun State chapter of the JUSUN are that lawlessness, lack of enforcement of rule of law is the order of the day”.

“It is an act of governmental irresponsibility for any state executive to be looking away while Sections 6 and 230 of the 1999 Constitution are being flagrantly breached without any plans to end it in sight,” the statement further noted.
