Shun crime, drug abuse, Osun monarch urges youth

The Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, has urged youths in Osun State to shun drug and not to involve themselves in criminal activities.

The monarch said drug abuse among the youth has become a menace that should be given serious attention by all stakeholders.

Oba Lawal made the appeal on Friday in Iyeku, a community along the Osun/Kwara State Boundary on Friday, during the commissioning of the Police Station for the town.

The monarch urged parents to monitor closely what their children are doing and make immediate corrections were necessary.

He also called on the vast youthful population in the state to channel their energy towards productive engagement.

In his words, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Gotam, said that by avoiding crime, the youth would be protecting their own future.

The police boss, also said involving in excessive intake of alcohol intake could jeopardise a promising future, urging the younger generation to pick responsible adults as role models.

He commended the donor of the building, the CP noted that Dr. Samuel Adetunji, noting that he has been supporting the police and other efforts that would promote harmonious living in Plateau State where he resides and his home state of Osun in the past.

“He (Dr. Samuel Adetunji), started as a corps member and look at him today. I want to urge our youth, they should shy away from criminality, they should shy away from alcoholism and drug addiction.

“I assure you, if you work hard, one day, you will have a breakthrough. Choose responsible elders as role models. Work hard to have a good future,” Gotam said.
