Senate holds public hearing for proposed Federal College in Ikire

The Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary) on Wednesday held a public hearing on the bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Vocational and Technical Studies, Ikire, Osun State.

The bill was sponsored by the lawmaker representing Osun West, Senator Lere Oyewumi.

According to a statement by the media unit, office of the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, the Committee Chairman, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman in his opening remark, harped on the importance of technical and vocational education as a catalyst for national development and youth empowerment.

The statement said Senator Usman noted that the public hearing was essential to gauge community readiness and input for such a strategic institution.

The Akire of Ikireland, Oba Olatunde Falabi, who was represented at the public hearing by Chief Mrs. Omolara Oyewumi, Yeye Apesin of Ikireland, according to the statement, conveyed the enthusiasm of the entire community in having the school in Ikire.

The traditional ruler assured the committee of the community’s support, stating that the proposed college would honor the legacy of Ikire and serve as a beacon of learning for Nigeria.
