The lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency, Taofeek Ajilesoro, on Thursday moved for first reading five bills during plenary.
The bills which have passed the first reading, include, the Office of Surgeon-General Bill, 2025 (HB.2552), Free Maternal and Child Health Care Bill, 2025 (HB.2553), National Health Trust Fund Bill, 2025 (HB.2554), Counterfeit and Fake Drugs (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2555) and Palm Oil, Cocoa, and Groundnut Development Bill, 2025 (HB.2556).
According to a statement by the lawmaker, the Free Maternal and Child Health Care Bill, 2025 (HB.255,3), if passed into law, will guarantee accessible and quality healthcare for mothers and children across Nigeria.
Ajilesoro noted that the
National Health Trust Fund Bill, 2025 (HB.2554) will ensure the establishment of a sustainable funding mechanism for public health infrastructure and services.
On the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2555), the lawmaker said it would strengthen penalties and enforcement against the menace of fake drugs and unsafe foods.
Ajilesoro added that the Palm Oil, Cocoa, and Groundnut Development Bill, 2025 (HB.2556) is to revive and modernize our agricultural heritage for economic growth and job creation.
“These bills are not just documents, they are instruments of transformation. They reflect our shared values, our aspirations, and our resolve to build a healthier, safer, and more prosperous society.
