The Federal Government has issued an early warning of possible flooding in parts of Osun State, forecasting heavy rainfall between October 19 and 23, 2025.
The alert, released by the National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS Center) under the Federal Ministry of Environment, said residents of Ilesa in Osun State should prepare for potential flooding during the forecast period.
The Ministry, in a statement signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, urged relevant state agencies and local authorities to activate preventive and response measures to minimize the impact of the expected downpour.
“The following locations and their environs are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding within the period of prediction: 19th–23rd October 2025,” the statement read.
It further called on stakeholders and representatives of the state government to remain vigilant and provide timely feedback to the center to aid in monitoring and coordination efforts.
The statement noted that proactive steps such as clearing drainage channels, relocating from flood-prone areas, and avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal could significantly reduce the risk of flooding and its attendant damage.
