Again, Residents call out Osun Youth Commissioner, say Ministry not functioning

By Tunde Olamilekan

Residents of Osun State have again called out the state Commissioner for Youth, Moshood Olagunju, over alleged lack of inclusivity.

The residents said the Ministry under Olagunju has been ‘non-functional’ in terms of youth engagement, calling on the state government to address the issue.

The residents made the comments while reacting to an open letter by a digital media organisation, Inside Osogbo to the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The management of Inside Osogbo had in the letter posted on its Facebook page, urged the state governor to reposition youth development as a priority agenda and strengthen the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

The letter stated that “A greater and more deliberate focus on youth development is urgently needed, one that goes beyond empowerment programs and temporary interventions to establish sustainable systems that truly nurture talent, build capacity, and secure the future.”

The letter said youth development should not be an occasional activity but a core pillar of Osun’s growth strategy.

“We appeal to Your Excellency to strengthen policies that directly address youth unemployment, digital skills training, entrepreneurship funding, and leadership development.

“Let us invest in programs that teach our young people not just to survive but to create, innovate, and lead. Establishing a statewide Youth Innovation Fund, modern skill acquisition centres, and startup incubators will go a long way in transforming our energetic youth into wealth creators and job providers,” the letter noted in parts.

Commenting on the post, Francis Dayo Fortune, suggested that the Commissioner for Youth knew nothing about the Ministry he is supervising.

According to him, “The youth ministry is in the wrong person’s hand. That man knows nothing about the ministry he was supervising.”

For Alamu Adewale Akeem, “Youth inclusivity is not part of this ministry. Maybe they should erase it”.

However, the spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed, while commenting on the post, said the message was well noted.

“Well noted. Kindly reach out to the Governor’s office by having the letter redirected to his office. Your contributions are well noted,” Rasheed commented.
