The ongoing industrial action by the Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has stalled the trial of an alleged fraudster, Adeleke Adeniran.
Adeniran was alleged to have duped a poultry farmer in Osogbo, Tijani Ahmed to the tune of N9.7 million.
Narrating how the incident happened, the victim said Adeniran was introduced to him as a processor interested in buying his broilers in December 2024.
Ahmed said the suspect came to his farm on December 18, 2024, and took away 1,500 pieces of chicken worth N9.7 million after dropping a post-dated cheque, which was to be cashed on December 27.
He, however, said, on getting to the bank on January 02, 2025, to cash the cheque, he was told that the suspect’s account had no money.
Ahmed added that the suspect has been charged in court and was supposed to appear for continuation of his trial on October 09, 2025, but the matter could not come up because of the ongoing JUSUN strike.
He said, “The man is a fraudster parading himself as a chicken processor in Osun. He was introduced to me by a friend of mine. On the 18th of December, 2024, he came to my farm to pick live chickens worth about 9.7m, and he wrote me a cheque.
“The cheque was post-dated to be cashed on the 23rd of December 2024. I took the cheque to the bank, and three days later, the cheque bounced. All attempts to reach this man proved abortive. I had to involve the police, and he was arrested in January 2025.
“He has been charged in court, and the case was supposed to come up on October 09 for continuation of the trial, but the Judiciary workers are on strike. I hope justice prevails and this fraudster faces the full wrath of the law.”
Further investigation by osun.life reveals that Adeleke has similar other cases with other poultry farmers in different courts of law and police stations. The farmers are hopeful that the resumption of the judiciary staff and ruling by the court would bring them reprieve and succour.
