Suspected Yahoo Boy allegedly attacks Imam in Iwo

By Tunde Olamilekan

A suspected internet fraudster whose name was not given has allegedly attacked an Imam in the Obatedo area of Iwo, Osun State.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 15, 2025, around 5:10 a.m., while the cleric was preparing for morning prayer.

A statement signed by the Director General, Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative (THURIST), S. A. Tadese, Esq., on Monday, said the suspect also attempted to strangle one Mr. Rasaq Tijani, who was calling worshippers to prayer at the mosque.

It was gathered that community members came to the rescue of the victims and apprehended the suspect.

The suspect was said to have been handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters at Adeeke, Iwo.

The Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative, in its statement, called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

THURIST further expressed concern that “high and mighty” individuals within Iwoland are attempting to influence the case and pervert the course of justice. The organisation vowed to take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served.

The group called on relevant authorities to ensure that the suspect faces the full weight of the law, stressing that crimes of such nature must not be swept under the carpet.
