2026: Osun APC condemns verbal attack by governorship aspirants’ supporters, reels out code of conduct

The Working Committee of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a code of conduct to governorship aspirants in the party.

The party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement, said the move was to sanitize the APC and promote peace, unity, and tranquility towards the governorship primary election coming up in the state at a later date.

Parts of the measures include the outlawing of any member of the executive officers of the party at all its levels, be it state, senatorial, local government, ward, and the reinstated local government council chairmen and councillors from involving themselves as the coordinator of any governorship aspirant.

The party also said it ordered the spokespersons of the governorship aspirants, their leaders, members, and supporters, to desist from using derogatory and abusive language during the course of canvassing for their aspirants, adding that failure to do so would attract an instant sanction in line with the constitution of the party.

According to the party chairman, some supporters and followers of the numerous APC governorship aspirants have been throwing caution to the wind by needlessly verbally attacking either some of the esteemed party leaders, aspirants, or supporters of other aspirants within the same party.

“It was the considered view of the state working committee of the party that the untoward development has been causing avoidable cataclysm, rancour and disharmony within the opposition APC in the state which is not in the overall interest of the party,” the statement noted.

The committee stated that it was unthinkable, needless, and disheartening for the members of the same party to engage one another as political rivals who should be destroyed at any slightest opportunity.

“To this extent, the State Working Committee of the APC has resolved to instil discipline among the erring members by instantly outlawing any member of the executive officers of the party at all its levels be it state, senatorial, local government, ward, and the reinstated local government council chairmen and councillors from involving themselves as the co-ordinator of any governorship aspirant.

“It was also resolved that it has become compelling for the spokesmen of the governorship aspirants, their leaders, members, and supporters, to desist from using derogatory and abusive language during the course of canvassing for their aspirants, failure of which would attract an instant sanction in line with the constitution of the party,” the chairman noted.

The State Working Committee of the APC also disclosed that the leadership of the party shall frown at any aspirant, supporter, or leader who causes a derogatory message, article or news story against any of the fellow aspirants either in print, broadcast or social media to be published in the course of canvassing support for any aspirant without considering any negative consequences to the electoral fortune of the party in the forthcoming elections.

“It was also part of the resolutions of the Osun State Working Committee that no aspirant or supporter of any aspirant shall be allowed to use the name of any of the revered leaders or group of the party to endorse any governorship aspirant as failure to observe this will attract a stiff penalty from a special committee set up in the state to monitor the daily canvassing activities of the aspirants,” the statement added.
