A former chairman of Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Francis Famurewa, has faulted the reward system of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
This was as he said the party must return to the drawing board and look at where it failed in the last election if it wishes to win the August 08, 2026 gubernatorial election.
The former House of Representatives member stated this while addressing APC ward chairmen during a meeting with one of the governorship aspirants of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, recently.
Famurewa noted that the APC cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result, adding that there was the need for the restructuring of the party as recommended by the Professor Isaac Adewole committee.
The former lawmaker also lamented that the recommendations of the committee which was set up after by the party after it lost the 2022 gubernatorial election were not implemented.
He said, “Only a fool will keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. What we are about to do now is to go back to basis and do it the way it should be done.
“We have to return the party back to the local level. The ward chairmen owns the party. If we keep doing like before, we won’t get any positive result.
“When we suffered the loss in 2022, a committee headed by Professor Isaac Adewole was set up and one of the recommendations of the committee was that we have to restructure the party and give it back to those who own it.
“The committee also said we must improve on our reward system if we want to win future election. The committee said we must ensure that those who work for the party are rewarded.”
Famurewa told the ward chairmen to support the aspiration of Senator Omisore, adding that the former Osun East lawmaker was the one who can take the party back to where it belongs.
“That is what we are here to do today. You are owner of the party and we are here to listen to you. Tell us what you want and our boss will answer you on what he will do.
“What is important is for every member of the party to have access to whoever became the governor. We don’t want someone who will not be accessible,” he added.
