Osun 2026: Ignore rumour mongers, I’m still in the race – Basiru

By Tunde Olamilekan

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has debunked rumours that he is jettisoning his gubernatorial ambition.

The former Osun Central lawmaker who is one of the gubernatorial aspirants under the APC, said rumour that he had decided to step down from the race is far from the truth.

The Osogbo-born politician stated this on Wednesday during the official inauguration of ‘Alubarika Movement’ in Isokan Local Government Area.

Represented by Hon Kehinde Olamolu, the APC national scribe, urged the party members to remain steadfast and continue with their grassroots mobilisation.

Olamolu said, “I want to assure you on behalf of our boss that there is no cause for alarm. There have been a lot of rumours on social media that Ajibola Basiru has decided not to contest again. That is a lie.

“By the grace of God, Ajibola Basiru will become the next governor of Osun State. I want to urge you to continue with the grassroots mobilisation. Ensure you have your ward and local meetings regularly.”

Earlier in his welcome address, a chieftain of the APC in Isokan, Mr Ajibola Olanrewaju, noted that the ‘Alubarika Movement’ will ensure the victory of the APC National scribe not only at the primary but also at next year’s election.

Olanrewaju said Basiru is the best among the candidates vying for the ticket under the APC, noting that his wealth of experience administratively and politically was what Osun needs at this critical moment.

He said, “We are here to officially inaugurate the ‘Alubarika Movement’ in Isokan Local Government, and I am happy with the large turnout of our people from Osogbo and Irewole local governments.

“This movement will ensure victory for our boss, the National Secretary of our party, Senator Ajibola Basiru in next year’s election. We are going to ensure that our principal gets the ticket.”

The event witnessed the presence of serving and past officials of the APC across the state.
