The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s frequent travels abroad have brought positive results.
Basiru said he would advise Tinubu to travel more, adding that the job of a president is not to sit in his office but to travel around and get the best for his country.
The former Osun Central lawmaker stated this in a recent interview with a major newspaper in Nigeria.
The APC National Secretary who was responding to question on critics who claim that President Tinubu is traveling too much, said, “He is, in fact, not travelling enough; he should travel more because his travels have yielded positive results in terms of greater foreign direct investment, greater feasibility for our country, and greater acceptability by the international community of Nigeria. He is the salesman of Nigeria.
“The job of a president is not to sit in the confines of an office, but for him to travel and be able to get the best for the country. He has been able to get the best for our country through his strategic foreign engagements and foreign travels.
“As far as I am concerned, he has not even travelled enough. We want to pray to God to give him more vigour and energy to travel around the world to bring in more foreign investments,”
On whether Nigeria is better off under the APC, Basiru said the party has a vision, which is now translating into reality.
According to him, “Many things that were not here before President Tinubu are now here. You have the NELFUND, Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, Economic Development Commission for all six zones in Nigeria to galvanise development at that level.”
“You also have the availability of money for serious infrastructural development, unification of the exchange rate, which has allowed investment to flow into the country, and allows Nigeria to clear the backlog of indebtedness that it had.
“Even international rating organisations are upgrading the rating of Nigeria. The Renewed Hope Agenda is working and succeeding in those areas,” the APC chieftain added.
