A former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s decision not to appoint ambassadors may be due to the outstanding fees owed to some past ambassadors.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico said the President will appoint ambassadors in due time, adding that the number one citizen has the interest of Nigerians at heart.
The APC chieftain stated this on Monday while featuring on TVC’s Politics Tonight.
According to him, “The policy on diplomacy by the president is fairly Okay. People are saying he has not appointed ambassadors after us but what the president is thinking is different from what we are thinking. The president listens to the news, reads papers, and hears that people are complaining about hunger. So, what is on the ground today is more than ambassadorial appointments.
Moreover, they owe the former ambassadors and the staff. I learnt the president has released some money, as I talk to you, the federal government of Nigeria is owing me almost $200,000. I used my Fund Service Allowance to do the job of that office. That is the issue, and until the president is able to clear what is on the ground, he wouldn’t want to appoint another set of people.”
Speaking on the current administration in Osun State, Bello noted that apart from road infrastructure, Governor Ademola Adeleke is lacking in other sectors.
Bello said his kinsman has no other legacy projects to point to outside the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the state.
He also said the road infrastructure program of the incumbent administration is focused on Ede, the hometown of Governor Adeleke, and Osogbo, the state capital.
He added that the allocations coming from the federal government to Osun does not commensurate with the projects on the ground.
“The Governor should think of another legacy project apart from road constructions and rehabilitations. We need other things in other areas.”
The former speaker said the state is suffering from inadequate teachers and good buildings in some schools, urging the state governor to find a way to address the issue.
“Look at the education sector, we don’t have teachers or good buildings in some of the schools and that is our priority because that is our future,” Bello added.
On the forthcoming gubernatorial election, Bello said anyone presented by the APC will defeat Governor Adeleke.
He said, “I can tell you authoritatively that APC is ready for the election. We have credible aspirants and I tell you, any of them picked, without rancour in the party, will beat Adeleke in the election. “
The moment any of them is picked and it is done transparently, you can be sure there won’t be any rancour. We have a leadership structure, and we do things accordingly in the APC.”
