A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, caused a stir over the weekend when he claimed that musician, David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, his father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke have been funding local government workers’ salaries in Osun State from their personal pockets.

The PDP chieftain reportedly made the disclosure during an interview on Nigeria Info FM Lagos 99.3.

The former military governor of Ondo State made the claim while answering questions on the withheld local government allocations in Osun State.

The elder statesman said that the trio have been paying salaries of workers from their pockets since the local government allocations were withheld.

However, check by osun.life showed that the Adeleke family has not been paying the local government workers from their pocket.

Also, the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi had at different fora explained the source of paying the local government staff and others drawing their salaries from the council allocation.

Recently, the Commissioner said the state government has been using funds initially meant for its various developmental projects to pay different categories of workers who draw salaries from the local government allocation.

Also, the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, corroborated Alimi’s claim, noting that the delay in completing the teachers’ recruitment exercise was because the money to be used to recruit teachers was being spent on payment of primary school teachers, local government workers, health workers, and five per cent to traditional rulers.

“The money we are supposed to be using for these things is what we are using to pay primary school teachers, local government workers, health workers, and five per cent to traditional rulers.
