The chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, Mr. Hassan Okanlawon, has asked the state government to provide an alternative route for truck drivers operating in the area.
This was as the chairman ordered an immediate halt to the operations of Sanlomg Quarry in Obaagun area of the state.
A statement by the media team of the local government chairman on Friday said the measures were part of the resolutions agreed on following a meeting between Mr. Okanlawon and some stakeholders at the conference hall of the local government secretariat.
The stakeholders, according to the statement, include the chairman and representatives from the Truck Owners Association of Nigeria (Ifelodun Branch), the Association of Truck Drivers (Ifelodun Local Government Branch), and security agencies.
According to the statement, the measures became necessary following the recent accident involving a trailer in Ikirun on Tuesday.
The statement added that the chairman alongside the stakeholders resolved that pending government intervention to construct alternative roads in Ikirun, the operation of Sanlomg Quarry will be halted.
The statement said the resolutions also included directing truck drivers and owners to transport loads exclusively from Best Stone Quarry until further notice.
The chairman also said trucks are not permitted to pass through Oke Obaagun to Ikirun until an alternative road is provided by the state government.
The statement further said, “It was resolved to identify and provide alternative routes for trucks transporting materials from quarries, aiming to minimize traffic through community roads and reduce the risk of accidents.
“All loaded trucks must cover their loads adequately to prevent spillage and improve safety on the roads during transportation.
“Quarry companies operating within Ifelodun Local Government shall be responsible for the maintenance of local roads affected by their operations, particularly those with potholes, to ensure safer passage for all road users.”
