Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 as a turning point in his life and career.
Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence, Lagos State, in October of that year.
In an interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz which started trending on Wednesday, Davido said he was proud of how he and his wife, Chioma, handled the tragedy and found the strength to move forward.
According to him, the painful experience reshaped his outlook on life and refocused his priorities.
The Unavailable crooner revealed that their resilience has inspired many, recalling how strangers have approached him in public to commend his strength during the dark period.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life.
“I know how many people randomly like in the airports will come to me like, ‘bro, you don’t know how your strength has gotten me through life.’ You know what I’m saying? But I’m just, me and my wife were talking the other day, I was like, I’m proud of us, man, you know what I’m saying? Like now we got twins, you know, they’re big, shouting everywhere, but like, you know what I’m saying? But for us to, you know, go through that and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge” Davido said.
