Eid: Omisore floods Osun with 2200 bags of rice, 300 rams

By Michael Adeyemo

A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has commenced the distribution of 2200 bags of rice, 300 rams and cash support to residents of Osun State as a goodwill gesture towards the celebration of the Eid-el-Adha.

In a template made available to our correspondent, Omisore, who is the immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said the initiative was intended to support individuals during the Eid-el-Adha celebration.

Of the 2200 bags of rice scheduled for distribution, 1244 are expected to go through the APC party machinery for onward distribution across the 332 wards and leaders of the party at the Local Government level while about 1000 bags will be distributed directly to stakeholders and individuals across Osun State, as well as 300 rams and cash support.

Recall that the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in May showed a decline in the food inflation index, which dropped by 0.53 percentage points to 21.26 per cent in April from 21.79 per cent in March.

However, major media outlets are reporting low sales by traders across various markets ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir. It is expected that the gesture of Senator Iyiola Omisore, who at a time represented the good people of Osun East Senatorial District, embodies the spirit of sacrifice and would enable residents of the State to have a joyous celebration.

Eid al-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, is a major Islamic holiday celebrated worldwide. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command. The festival symbolises faith, obedience, and the spirit of sacrifice.
