Let’s use religion to foster unity of Nigeria – Babayemi

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has enjoined Nigerians not to always see religion as a tool for destabilisation but also as a channel to further foster and cement the unity of the nation.

He urged adherents of different religions in the country not to relent in their prayers for the success of the newly installed administrations at various levels in the country.

Babayemi who was a governorship aspirant of the PDP in Osun, in his congratulatory message to Muslim brothers and sisters on the celebration of this year’s Eid-del-Kabir, maintained that instead of dissipating energies on religious conflicts and other related negativities, people could turn such to concrete support base for those paddling the affairs of the country as encouragement for them to ensure the development of the nation.

He said, “Unity at any point in time in the life of any given society plays a very vital role in the cohesive existence of that society which invariably can lead to a desired growth and development for the good of its people.

“As a people, we should not be using religion as a channel to fanning the ember of discord in our society. This will not in any way connect us to God and more importantly, it will only make our society to be on a perpetual retrogressive lane,” Babayemi stated.

While rejoicing with the Muslim faithful on this year’s Eid-del-Kabir, the party chieftain advised that the import of the sacrificial lessons enshrined in the celebration should not be forgotten.

“The selflessness and the love encoded in Eid-del-Kabir should be guiding light in our day-to-day dealings with neighbours and the nation. This no doubt, will go a long way in making our country to be great as being desired,” he noted.

The PDP stalwart reiterated the need for the people of the country to always be their brothers’ keepers of bonding and peaceful co-existence.
