Two men remanded for defrauding jobseeker

Fifty-two-year-old Tajudeen Oyejide and 47-year-old Adebayo Oyeniyi were, on Wednesday, remanded in prison for failing to secure a job for one Michael Oladunjoye with the Nigerian Prisons Service after collecting money from him.

The accused were arraigned on three counts bordering on conspiracy and fraud.

Oyejide and Oyeniyi allegedly collected N300,000 from Oladunjoye with a promise to get him a job with the NPS, but failed to so.

The police prosecutor, Glory Ona, explained that the accused committed the offences between May 2018 and April 2019 in Modakeke, Osun State, by conspiring with others still at large to defraud Oladunjoye.

He said the offences contravened sections 383, 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. Their counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, urged the court to commit them to bail, with an assurance that they would provide good sureties.

Magistrate Abimbola Famuyide, however, told Obi to come with a written application.

She directed that the accused be remanded in the Ile-Ife Prison and adjourned the matter till August 5 for hearing.
