By Jamiu Ganiyu

As part of efforts to tackle the spate of insecurity in the South Western region of the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plans to commence aerial surveillance of all the forests in the region in order to get real-time updates of happenings in those forests which criminals uses as hideouts.

This initiative by the federal government was disclosed yesterday by, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday, at Government House, Oke-fia, Osogbo, the Osun state capital, at a strategic security meeting with Traditional Rulers of the state.

In addition, Professor Yemi Osinbajo said that the federal government would explore a combined strategy of community policing and neighborhood watch programme to tackle the growing insecurity in the South Western part of the country.

He maintained that government through the relevant security agencies and stakeholders would collaborate effectively with the traditional rulers to further strengthen the security at the local level.

According to him, “the theme of our discussion is security and we spent quite a lot of time to understand the security architecture of the state and also to identify where the difficulties may lie. You know that we have already held consultation with all the state governors, including governors from the South West.” he concluded.
