Osun Govt distributes incentives to farmers

By Adebowale Adebukola.

The government of Osun under the leadership of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola in collaboration with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, (IITA) has distributed various incentives to farmers across the state with a view to making agricultural sector develop drastically.

The programme which took place at the Nelson Mandella’ Freedom Park on July 3, 2019 had various Farmers’ Association Representatives across the thirty local governments in the state.

The Chairman of the Farmers’ Association, Alhaji Suleiman Araonkanmi said that agriculture in the state needs urgent rebranding which could only be achieved by partnering with the state government to achieve their aims as farmers.

“We are conscious of the fact, Sir, that you are very much aware of the role of Agriculture in the economic development of the State of Osun in particular and the nation in general. Agriculture is the mainstay of our economy, whereas, it requires immediate and urgent government intervention and assistance/support in form of grants, loans, provision of essential facilities, supply of inputs and a host of others in alleviating the suffering of farmers in general. As a general saying that “BI EBI BA TI KURO NINU ISE, ISE BUSE” provision of food to the citizenry is very paramount. There is the urgent need to reward farmers for their toil on the land”.

“Farming is no more for the indolent, this is no longer a time for Cutlass and hoe farming for subsistent agriculture. Nowadays, Minister, Governors, Top Military officers, to mention a few are now back to the farm”.

Speaking regarding the internal rancour going on in the association, he said it has been settled by the National Executive Committee of Association of Farmers’ in Nigeria, (AFAN).

“There is no more rancour, acrimony or faction among the ranks and file of AFAN in the State of Osun since we had our election on the 29th of November, 2018 coupled with directives given by the  National Executive Committee of the Association at its meeting in Abuja on 11th June, 2019 which directed the immediate withdrawal of any litigation in the court within a week to that meeting”.

In this circumstance, I implore my people whosoever is aggrieved to sheath the sword and let us work together as a team” He said.
