Insecurity: CP blames social media, says Osun is safe

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, on Sunday said the state is safe and blamed social media for portraying the state as unsafe.

Ige said the Command had curb incidents of kidnapping and other violent crimes in recent time because operatives now understand better how the perpetrators of such crimes operate.

Speaking at the unveiling of a music studio, Olarm Records in Osogbo, Ige, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tunde Adagunduro, said the command is working round the clock to ensure the state remains peaceful.

She said the news on social media of many security infractions in the state were untrue, urging residents of the state to assist the police by giving timely information of suspicious movements and characters around them.

“The way to go is community policing. If you see something, say something. Osun is safe and we have been able to bring down incidents of kidnapping and violent crimes in the state in recent time, because we know the mode of operation of those behind such crimes now.

“Newsmen should help us to stop news flying around on the social media depicting the state as unsafe. Osun is safe and we will continue to work very hard to ensure peace. Olarms is assisting us to engage the youth positively. That is the way to go,” Ige said.
