Taekwondo athletes from Osun State are set to strike blows with other taekwondoists’ from all over the federation in order to get ticket to represent Nigeria in Taekwondo at the 12th All African Games in Morocco.

Osun Taekwondists Adegoke Abdullah (63kg), Olasunkanmi Sualaiman (54kg), Olusanjo Grace (67kg) and Ogungbemi Anifat (73kg) will be at the qualifier stage which will hold from 26th to 28th June, 2019 at the National Stadium, Abuja under the tutelage of Coach Edward Ikekhua

Speaking on the development, the athletes who have been sucked up into series of activities preparing to get them in proper shape for the trials, expressed enthusiasm as regards the quaifiers, they equally promised to make Osun proud as they secure the ticket to represent Nigeria at the All African Games.

“We are in high spirit and can’t wait for the qualifiers to begin. We will at no moment let our guards down. We will draw from the impactful technical savvy brought to bare on us by our coach to face up to any challenge thrown at us by our opponents. We’ve been working our socks off in training sessions and we keep believing in our abilities and praying to God for success”.

Adegoke Abdullah who is 2013 National Youth Games Gold Medalist and 2018 Lagos Classic Silver Medalist will be competing in the Bantamweight category, while Olasunkanmi Suleiman a 2016 U-20 TBG silver and bronze medalist will be competing in the Finweight category. Olusanjo Grace a 2018 National Sports Festival bronze medalist on the other hand will be competing in the Welterweight category.

It would be recalled that Taekwondo has been a forte of Osun State in the world of sports where coach Edward Ikhekua has been doing a yeoman’s job to produce national and continental beaters.

However, this is the first time Taekwondo athletes from Osun State will be trying to pick a ticket to represent Nigeria at an All African Games and success in their quests will solidify Osun State’s status as a top-ranked state in Nigeria in the game of Taekwondo.

The All African Games is expected to kick off from the 19th to 31st of August, 2019 in Rabat, Morocco.
