Court remands 32-yr-old man for N130k electricity meter scam

A 32-year-old man, Adedokun Kayode has been remanded in Ilesa prison by an Osogbo Magistrate Court for alleged theft of N130,000.

The Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence some time in December 2018, at Agunbelewo, Osogbo.

Abiodun said the defendant with an intention to steal, claimed to be a NEPA official and collected the sum of N130,000 from one Sunday Clement, Kayode allegedly converted the money to his personal use and failed to provide him the Electricity Meter which he was paid for.

He told the court that the defendant was arrested and arraigned before the court after several attempts made to retrieve the money from him failed when he couldn’t produce the Meter.

Kayode who is facing a two-count charge pleaded not guilty for the charge against him.

The Prosecutor stated that the offence committed contravened sections 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11, Laws of Osun 2003.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

However, Magistrate A.M Awodele overruled the bail application and ordered for a formal bail application.

The case was adjourned to July 2, for its ruling.
