SW Govs plan security summit as Akeredolu emerges Forum Chairman

Governors from the south-west states have announced their intention to hold a summit aimed at addressing security challenges in the region.

Of late, kidnapping and other forms of insecurity have been on the rise in the south-west.

At a meeting at the Ondo state governor’s lodge in Abuja on Friday, the governors said the summit will bring critical stakeholders together to brainstorm on how to tackle the issue of insecurity.

“There’s an urgent need to stem the growth of criminal activities and banditry in our region and as leaders, we must be proactive in our approach to addressing the issue,” Akeredolu said on behalf of the governors.

He said that the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has been directed to coordinate the security summit.

Akeredolu also added that KPMG, an auditing firm, has been appointed to review the tenure of the group managing director of Oodua Investment Company— which has all the governments of the south-west states as shareholders.

Governors present at the meeting were, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state.

The governors, at the meeting, unanimously, adopted Akeredolu as the chairman of the south-west governors’ forum.
