All Progressives Congress in Osun State has filed petitions challenging results of two House of Representatives seats and two State House of Assembly seats before the State Election Petitions Tribunal.
The party is challenging Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, and Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency while also challenging that of Obokun State Constituency as well as Ede North State Constituency seat.
The election in the constituencies, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates.
Meanwhile, the PDP has also filed a petition challenging the result of the House of Assembly election in Ifelodun state constituency where the APC was declared winner of the election.
In Oriade/Obokun federal constituency, Dr Siji Olamiju of the APC is challenging the election of four terms Hon. Wole Oke of PDP and former Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly and APC candidate, Hon. Adejare Bello is challenging the victory of Mr. Bamidele Salam of PDP in Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo federal constituency.
Also, in Obokun State Constituency, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye is challenging the election of the PDP’s Adeyemi Adewumi while in Ede North, Daud Akinloye is challenging the election of Akogun Jide Lawal of the PDP.
While Oke polled 25,329 to defeat the candidate of APC, Olamiju, who polled 19,725, Salam scored 46,944 against 44,866 scored by Bello. Lawal of the PDP polled 12, 993 votes in Ede North to defeat Akinloye of the APC who polled 12, 643, while in Obokun, Adewumi polled was declared winner ahead of Oyintiloye.
One of the counsels of the APC said, the reason for challenging those results was as a result of irregularities and non-compliance with the statutory provisions of the law with which the elections were characterised.
The lawyer added that one of the prayers of the petitioners before the tribunal was that the results in some polling units, especially where there was violence and over voting be cancelled and the petitioner be declared winners.
Oyintiloye, while speaking on his petition said, he has confidence that his stolen mandate would be retrieved through the court, saying he won the election but was rigged out by the PDP.
Appealing to his supporters to be calm and hopeful, he assured that there is enough evidence to prove the case and win.
It would be recalled that APC won six out of nine federal legislative seats in the state leaving only three for PDP. The party also won 23 legislative seats out of 26 state House of Assembly while PDP had three seats.
