Conduct forensic audit for Osun guber poll – Observer

The Election Monitor (EM) has urged INEC to consider conducting a forensic audit to determine the cause of the sharp increase in voided votes observed in the last governorship election in Osun State.

The Coordinator of EM, Mr. Abiodun Ajijola, made the call at the weekend in Abuja at the public presentation of the “2018 Osun State Governorship Election Report”.

Mr. Ajijola said the 47,874 voided votes were high and unusual in Osun State, hence the need for critical examination of the development, and that it was important because it would help determine if there was any foul play or not and what could be done to ensure voided vote rates remained low in subsequent elections.

He said a lot could be learnt in the Osun election to guide the conduct of stakeholders so as to ensure the success and credibility of the 2019 general elections.

He, however, said INEC made concerted effort to give a level- playing field to all political parties on the election day.
