Some suspected thugs of the All Progressives Congress has allegedly attacked a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Alekuwodo area, quite contiguous to the Adewale polling unit 17, where a supplementary election would be holding this Thursday.

It was learnt that the PDP chieftain was attacked by the thugs when he visited the area after he was informed that PDP canvassers in that area was accosted while carrying out their door-to-door campaign.

According to a resident, who pleaded anonymity, told osun.life that, “Some APC agents stormed our area around 6am, convincing us to trade our permanent voter cards for the sum of N50,000. We told them we didn’t want their money but we want to make a statement with our right. Some women fell for their antics and they took their Voter Identification Number. After that, their PVCs were collected.”

Another eyewitness, who confided in osun.life also said that he noticed some vehicles, marked with Osun State Government House plate number trooped the area in the early hours of Monday. He added that shortly after their arrival, there was a shout out leaving two persons with bullets injury.

According to him, “It was very early this that some APC people came to this area. They were talking to a few people and in short while they would collect their PVCs and hand over some cash to them. Later, we also saw some PDP guys begging residents to vote for them. They didn’t come with any money but they were canvassing for their candidate. Before we knew it they were accosted by those APC agents and it was in the middle of that fracas that a call was put through to Alhaji Diekola, who drove in almost immediately.

“Just as fast as he drove, he was attacked by those men who came in a government house vehicles, accompanied by some Civil Defence Corps, shot sporadically at Diekola’s Toyota Corolla’s car, while some of them wrecked the car and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on both Diekola and his driver.”

During a visit by osun.life to Alekuwodo, the presence of some policemen were noticed and the residents were in palpable jittery following the melee.

It was also gathered from one of the victims that the suspected thugs were allegedly led by one Ashiri Eniba, who also brought Civil Defence Corps to wreak havoc on them.

The victims of the attack, who reportedly sustained bullet injuries to their legs were taken to Morning Star Hospital in Alekuwodo area, where osun.life subsequently visited and found out that they have been discharged.
