As part of efforts towards a peaceful gubernatorial election in Osun State, Popular Nigerian pop star, Innocent Idibia, popularly called, 2face, has stormed Osogbo for the Vote Not Fight campaign.
The event which was well attended by dignitaries across the State, held at the Aurora Events Center in Osogbo.
Some of the dignitaries present at the event include the State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, Ebenezer Aboluwoye, the State Director of the Department of State’s Security, Brown Ekwaba, the Chief Executive Officer of Rave FM, Mr Femi Adefila, among others.
According to the organizers, the event was organized to bring Nigerian youths, who constitute the larger chunk of electorate, to the consciousness that election should come with peace, using entertainment.
They identified entertainment as a unifying factor in all human societies, especially among the youths.
One of the organizers, who is the Executive Director of Kimpact Development Initiative, Mr Bukola Idowu, said the state had come to the climax of political activities as the September 22 gubernatorial election drew near, emphasizing the need for all and sundry to participate peacefully.
He added that, “We have reached out to political parties and candidates for the forthcoming election in the state to let them know of our message, which is to eradicate violence during election and I’m happy to tell you that they are supporting us on how violence would be prevented.”
Also, the Chief Executive Officer of Youth Development Foundation, Mr Kingsley, underscores the need for the electorate to troop out in their numbers to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice, while making sure all forms of violence was eschewed.
2face in his own address, charged the youths to stand against all forms of inducement to vote a particular candidate, whose philosophy does not conform with theirs.
He said politicians in the country were always out to use Nigerian youths to perpetrate all sort of violence during elections, leaving their families in safety at the expense of the potential future leaders.
2baba added that, “Violence during elections have become commonplace in our country. Politicians don’t care about how many would get killed, all they want is that power and the set of people who are normally used are the youths.
“Why can’t we have an election that would be conducted in a way that after voting, we can all come together to rock to nice music instead of weaping over our murdered friends, families and neighbours?
He said, “until the youths take a position to rewrite the story of helping out power greedy politicians with violence, there may be no plan for the youths because as things stand, we are irrelevant to them.”
