The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Benedict Olugboyega, has said that the party would continue the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme if elected in the September 22 gubernatorial election.

He made this known at the Closing Ceremony of the ICT Training and Youth Empowerment at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo.

Olugboyega said Oyetola was passionate about youths and had a lot of confidence in their abilities, while noting that it was important to empower them if their standard of living were to be raised.

The Executive Chairman of RLG, Alhaji Rasaq Animashaun, said the training had gulped 5,000 trainees, who were trained in three centers across the state in assembling and repairing all electronic devices.

He added that the scheme would not also stop at training them alone but consult for any trainee who was willing to set up a center free of charge.

According to the CEO, “We want to implore individuals who want to invest in technology to bank their monies on our product as they have demonstrated that they can reach an unimaginable height in innovative technology. We have trained them on how to repair and assemble all electronics using local content materials.”
A Professor of Microbiology, Olu Odeyemi, lauded the government’s initiative of empowering the youths on technologies, but said urged incoming government not to shelf the programme, saying it would be inimical to the development of the state.

Odeyemi added that, “While doing this,  I think it is also important for the government to explore agriculture. They have been doing it but not as pronounced as this tech empowerment.”

Animashaun noted that the scheme would contribute positively to the economy of the state if 60 per cent of the 5,000 graduating students decided to start a tech center.

Also, one of the trainers, Elvis Osageye, said the intention of the scheme was to train the students on how to assemble and repair mobile phones and computers. But he said as the training progressed, other innovative idea crept in due to competitions among students.

He said the trainees had developed technologies that could change the country’s outlook among technologically developed countries.
