The Osun State Government in collaboration with World Bank under the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, is set to create employment opportunities in public service for about 9000 women and youths in rural communities of the State.
The social support programme is designed to assist women and youths in the poorest rural communities of the State of which participants are entitled to a monthly salary of N7500 for two years within which they are expected to have learnt a skill.
According to the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Engagement in Osun State, Mrs Folake Adegboyega said the programme is in partnership with World Bank with about 90% contribution.
“As a result of the success recorded in the Osun Youth Employment Scheme (OYES), the World Bank was encouraged to work with the State Government to encourage youths in the rural areas who are often forgotten “.
”The program is designed to incorporate the interests of young people within age 18-45 who have a low level of formal education “.
She further explained that about 1200 youths are currently participating in the trial phase and are been trained in different vocational skills.
Lastly, Mrs Folake gave assurance that at the end of the Programme, the level of unemployment in Osun State would have drastically reduced.
