Government propaganda has done more harm than good – Osun Pensioners

By Femi Adesola

The Spokesperson of Osun State Pensioners, Alhaji Lawal, has disclosed that the propaganda of the Government of Osun State has done more harm than good to pensioners in the State.

He made the statement in an interactive session on Rave FM’s Frank talk.

Lawal said “Government has been modulating the payment of gratuity and allowances for over 22 months but went ahead to make a declaration on media platforms saying it has paid all the outstanding entitlements owed by the State Government.”

It would be recalled that pensioners in Osun State had embarked on 3 days protest against the non-payment of their entitlements.

In response to the allegations of the National Union of Pensioners in Osun State, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Adelani Baderinwa, said the Government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has failed to pay all the entitlements of pensioners because of the economic situation in the State.

Meanwhile, he applauded the incumbent administration for allocating an estimated 3billion Naira in May 2018 to pay the pensioners.

“The government of Aregbesola paid out N1.2billion, N200million and another N1million for pension this year ,” Baderinwa said

The Osun State Chairman of National union of pensioners, Alhaji Ganiyu Salau noted the money issued by the government was not enough to pay 30% of the pensioners in the State, stating clearly that some primary school teachers are still yet to be paid their contributory pension.

However, the union beckoned on the State Government to pay their entitlements before the end of the present administration.
