UK Envoy promises strengthened ties with Osun

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright, has reiterated his commitment to strengthen economic and political ties with Osun State.

He stated this while fielding questions on ‘Frank talk’, a political program powered by Rave 97.1 FM

Mr. Arkwright disclosed that the plans of the British Government towards Osun State is Investment based. He said the Agricultural sector in the State has tremendously improved and needs expertise in marketing and exporting of the products to the British market, saying Britain will provide experts to educate the people of Osun State on entrepreneurship and marketing.

In his meeting with the Governor of the State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, ways to invest in gold mining and tourism was discussed noting that this two sectors will boom the State’s economy and reputation globally.

Meanwhile, he said good and quality infrastructure such as Museum, Hotels amongst others, must be built to attract visitors. “We can help, but at the same time, the State and Federal Government must be a part of the infrastructural development “. Arkwright said

While mentioning some of the present programmes of the British Commission in Osun State, he noted that there are different Educational and empowerment Schemes organized by the British Council solely for job creation, wealth creation and training of teachers.

Lastly, the British Envoy enjoins the people of Osun state to ensure a peaceful handover of power after the governorship election, and also thanked the people for their hospitality throughout his duration of stay.
