Foundation distributes farm inputs to Osun communities

The Wale Bolorunduro Foundation, an NGO, has distributed farm inputs to 210 farmers in Ijebu-Jesha and IpetuIjesha, both in Oriade local government of Osun state.

Chairman of the foundation, Dr. Adewale Bolorunduro, said the distribution of chemicals became necessary so as to enable farmers tackle insects that may spoil their cocoa and other plants.

Bolorunduro, who is the former General Manager of Zenith Bank, said he chose farmers because of his background as a son of successful farmer in Ijeshaland, and the understanding of the plight of farmers.

He promised to continue with his support to farmers, saying “we are coming very soon to distribute cocoa seedlings.” Bolorunduro, who noted that he was the first Yoruba to become General Manager of Zenith bank, said the opportunity propelled him to found Wale Bolorunduro Foundation in 2006 so as to be able to give back to his communities.

“I worked for 22 years in Zenith Bank before I became Commissioner for Finance in Osun.
The foundation was founded in 2006.

We started with the liberation of a man who would have gone blind.
We helped him, and by the grace of God, he is now a lecturer in the college of education in the state.
“We have given scholarship to students.
We have purchased WAEC forms for students.

We decided to support our farmers so that insects will not destroy their farms.
He said farm inputs likes herbicides, pesticides (taritari), cocoapod treatment chemical (korikori), were distributed to the farmers because of his concern about cash crops.

He said the gesture was also part of effort to complement the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government’s diversification agenda.

Bolorunduro however advised cocoa farmers to ensure proper application of the insecticides, assuring that the target of 1,500 beneficiaries would be met very soon.

He said the gesture would cover selected farmers in all the 10 local governments of Osun East.
