Engr. Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo has explained the reasons why the governorship position in Osun State should be zoned to Osun West Senatorial district.
He spoke in Abuja on Tuesday at the APC national secretariat after picking the nomination and expression of interest forms.
Oriolowo, who is a certificated project development manager, said Osun Central had tasted power for 12 years, while Osun East had also enjoyed governorship position for eight years.
He said that Osun west only spent 22 months in power before it was truncated by the military junta, stressing that any move to consider his district is not only constitutional but also in line with the spirit of federal character.
“We are talking of competency, capability and zoning. Zoning is part of Nigeria because federal character is not new to our constitution. In a place where there are three zones, in a game of random picking, the first element in the box is the next. It (zoning) is constitutional. It is about equity, justice and fairness,” he said when asked to explain the reason why he laid much emphasis on zoning.
He, therefore, said that he remained the most qualified personality for the job because of his political skills and technical expertise, especially judging from his project management experience and a long standing relationship with both internal and external development partners.
“We need a leader that can source for resources. I have a good relationship with all the development partners. When you look at a State like Osun, you will discover that we don’t really have the internally generated revenue (IGR). We need to seek the assistance of development partners to boost our investments, especially on agriculture. I have moved from agricultural sector to water, rural development and roads. So, I have always been pursuing development,” said Oriolowo.
