Osun 2018: Guber Candidates cannot spend more than 200m – REC

The Resident Electoral  Commissioner Of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje has said Governorship candidates can only spend 200 million naira for election expenses.

Agbaje made this known while fielding questions on Gold FM 95.5 Ilesha. Explaining the preparation of his agency, INEC towards the upcoming September 22nd Osun Governorship election.

“What the law says is that a candidate can only spend 200 million Naira, after their primaries we will hold meetings with the parties and their candidates and enlighten them on what the law says about election expenses,”
“Their expenses on campaigns, on either newspaper advertisements, radio and TV slot, billboards and posters, fueling of buses for campaign must reflect within the 200 million naira budget, anyone that spend beyond will be sanctioned,” He added

He lamented that about 194,811 PVCs across the 30 Local Governments remain unclaimed.

Agbaje disclosed that the voting process and collation will be electronic based with the use of Smart card readers and other special customised devices for a smooth and easy electoral exercise. He said adequate human and technological resources will be deployed to the over 3000 polling units across the State.

The INEC REC enjoined the aspirants to attend sensitization programmes that will be organized by the agency after the various primary election of political parties. He said the programme will educate them on the guidelines already laid down by INEC for the conduct of the election and assures the masses of a free, fair and organized election exercise, and enjoined them to go out in mass and obtain their PVCs.
