2017: Why I Stepped down for Adeleke says Akinlabi

By Femi Adesola

A Former Senator and Minister for Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, has disclosed that his loyalty to the party made him step down for the current Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Ademola Adeleke, during the last by-election to replace Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

The governorship hopeful disclosed this to party faithfuls in Osogbo, the headquarters of Osogbo Local Government, during the continuation of his delegates tour.

Senator Akinlabi who narrated events leading to the botched by-election, said his campaign team had already prepared for the primary election by mobilising voters to Iwo, but was persuaded by the party hierarchy to step down for Senator Ademola Adeleke to compensate for his late brother.

“I accepted in good fate and I didn’t consider leaving the party because of that” he said.

He however urged party members to be wary of moneybag politicians that only wants to hijack the party without having any definite plans for the populace, he also appealed to them to consider him as the candidate because of his vast administrative experience as a Senator and Minister for Youth Development.

The former banking and financial expert concluded by reeling out his education background and expertise, saying despite Osun’s financial challenges and humongous debt, he is capable of turning things around and make the State viable once again.
