The Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has urged politicians , particularly aspirants for political offices to play responsible politics that guarantees peace and cross fertilization of ideas.
He made the remark while addressing local government coordinators of his governorship campaign in Oshogbo, Dr. Salaam said hooliganism and political violence before, during and after election could not attract any good to anyone; saying it could only draw the wheel of development of the state back.
He then charged those who intend to govern Osun state to lay emphasis on peaceful coexistence among the people of the state, asserting that Osun is noted for peace and tranquility that must not be traded for political violence.
Speaking on the political development in the state, Dr. Salaam urged concerned stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) to look inward on the issue of conventional zoning that has become a thorning issue in the state; saying the party could not afford consequence of ditching the system that has become a political tradition.
“We, the concerned stakeholders in APC should save the party from itself by adhering to age-long tradition of zoning system, because the electorate are wiser now and may punish any party perceived to have wronged them in the political arrangement”, Salaam reiterated.
The Speaker further appealed to his governorship campaign coordinators to make their engagement with the voters carnival-like, saying he would not have anything to do with violence and would not encourage it.
