As Nigeria marks 19 years of return to democratic rule, the lawmaker representing Osun West in the Senate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has urged Nigerians to ensure that the sacrifices of past heroes does not become a waste.
He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to be more patriotic and dedicated to the cause of making Nigeria better, “though these are challenging times for us with crippling economic hardship, we cannot afford to allow things to continue to deteriorate, we must rise up as citizens to take charge of the future of our dear country. Our civic duties are sacrosanct and we must be alive to them”
The lawmaker, in a statement commemorating the day, said many members of the nation’s armed forces, and civilians alike paid the supreme sacrifice to protect the country’s democracy.
The lawmaker recalled how Nigerians rejected military rule, and in many instances, during protests that characterized the period, lost their limbs and lives.
“We must not allow sacrifices of these people to be in vain. Whatever view anyone should hold, democratic rule is by far the best. We should not relent in protecting this democracy,” Adeleke.
He continued: “Now more than ever Nigerians must be patriotic, we don’t have any other country apart from this. Let’s rededicate ourselves to her development and we shall all be better for it,” he concluded.
