A veteran journalist and former Editor with Punch Newspapers, Tunde Odesola, has lambasted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), over their tribute to their late administrative staff, Mrs. Iyabode Olusola-Dada.
The Peoples Democratic Party had in a condolence message signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, described her as a dedicated, loyal and committed staff.
However in a quick response to the party’s condolence message. Mr Odesola wrote;
What a tribute! What a party! What hypocrisy!
Iyabo was slowly deteriorating for weeks before she finally gave up the ghost today while the PDP chieftains she worked directly with turned dead ears to entreaties to come to her aid, and the party could come up with this mockery of an announcement?
A few of us who were Iyabo’s true friends had to raise money for her chemo not once, not twice. We stood firmly by her through thick and thin while we shuddered that the PDP, her main constituency, could abandon her.
For the last chemotherapy she took, we had to run from pillar to post to raise the funds while the PDP chieftains whom she once served, and raised a legion of enemies in the process for herself, busied positioning themselves for the spoils of the next governorship election. The chemo funds are separate from other funds for her upkeep and that of her son.
We all are but tools in the hands of these politicians, PDP or APC; they dispose of us when we are no longer useful to them.
Iyabo’s case is the most recent example and a lesson for us all not to throw our hats in the ring for any of them. If we must do, we must strive to evolve financial independence from these politicians.
I’m not saying that everybody doesn’t have their own problems, or that Iyabo’s problem should be borne solely by the PDP.
What I’m saying is that there were some people whom Iyabo worked directly with but who abandoned her at her hour of need. This is not right. Those of us who stood by Iyabo are not even as close to her as she was to those people.
At a time, Tunde Fanowopo and I had to personally contact two friends in the APC government (Commissioner Remi Omowaye and Mrs Ayo Omidiran), who donated money so that Iyabo could live. I thank them.
Osun PDP mourns Iyabo, mtcheeeeew!!
