Osogbo becoming a 21st Century Capital City as work begins on Osun Mall

By Femi Adesola

The City of Osogbo has finally taken another major step towards becoming a 21st Century Capital City as construction work begins on the proposed Osun Mall site.

The demolished site of the old Fakunle Comprehensive High School Osogbo, has been experiencing massive mobilization of heavy equipment for the land clearing, landscaping and perimeter fencing for the construction of the proposed Osun Mall that will be home for different retail franchise and stores.

The governor of the State, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, had last week hinted his followers via his verified twitter handle @raufaregbesola, that something big is happening on the demolished old Fakunle school “Our plan for the site of the old Fakunle is something that will astound even our biggest critics. I can tell you without doubt that something big is going” He tweeted.

The decision by the Aregbesola-led administration to demolish the School in 2013 caused a National outrage with State Government Officials taking turns to explain the rationale behind the project. There was massive public outcry and protest from the School students, School alumni and concerned indigenes of the State.

The demolition exercise was also a major campaign highlight for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2014 Governorship election which the incumbent governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, later won resoundingly.

Lastly, in his own remarks, Mr Joseph Akanbi, the CEO of Pentagon Mart outlets, said he is excited about the prospect of the mall. ‘’The proposed Osun mall when completed will enable wider socio-economic upliftment. It will also be a valuable enhancement to Osogbo’s shopping and social experience.’’ He added.
