Debt Profile: Osun Deputy Governor carpets opposition

The Deputy Governor of the State of Osun, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, has berated the opposition for misleading the public over the state’s debt profile. The Deputy Governor who spoke at the meeting of the Osun Central Senatorial District of the All Progressive Congress (APC), held at the former Fakunle Comprehensive High School playing ground, said Osun is not massively indebted as insinuated by the opposition parties.

The Central Senatorial District played a pivotal role in the second term election victory of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the zone which covers ten local government includes Oshogbo, Olorunda, Orolu, Irepodun, Odootin, Boluwaduro, Ila, Ifelodun, Boripe and Ifedayo.

The meeting was filled with party officers and leaders, from all the ten local government in the Osun Central Senatorial district. The meeting chaired by the Chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famodun, had in attendance the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adegboye Akintunde, The Attorney General of the State, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, Hon. Kamil Oyedele, Hon. Wasiu Adebayo, Hon.  Dejo Bello, among others.

Mrs. Tomori, who doubles as the commissioner of Education since 2010 until last year, disclosed to party faithful the debt profile of the State. She said the Federal Government recently released the list of debtor states in one of the national newspaper, claiming Osun did not appear on the list, She further stressed that it is the opposition party that is carrying rumor and brandishing different bogus figures around that Osun is debt ridden. While fact-checking the claims according to figures released by Nigeria bureau of statistics, Osun’ s foreign debt profile stands at $96,607,386, while the domestic debt stands at N138,239,593,287.18.

While reeling out the current administration’s achievement on education. She claimed, according to figures at her disposal from WAEC, that Osun improved from 6.8% in 2007 to 43.7% in 2017, predicting 60% for yet to be released 2018’s rating, attributing the massive improvement on input and distribution of “Opon Imo” to the pupils.

 

Lastly, on salaries, she enlightened the party members on the modulated salaries, that not all the workers were paid half salaries, that the junior staff received full salary, while the most Senior staff received half salaries. She later thanked the workers for their steadfastness and their hard work, She promised on behalf of the government that they will pay up the arrears before they hand over to the next government.
