Police Arraigns Seven for Alleged Armed Robbery

The Osun State Police Command has arraigned seven men, Akintayo Adekunle, 30, Isiaka Lasisi, 37,Kamorudeen Olofaina, 32, Akeem Adeniyi, 33, Basiru Soliu, 24, Saheed Umoru, 25 and Aderibigbe Kunle, 23, before an Osogbo Magistrate Court on Monday March 12, 2018 for alleged armed robbery.

The accused persons are facing a ten count charge based on conspiracy and armed robbery.

It was gathered that six of the accused persons between November 2016 and 16th day of February, 2018 at about 10 in Osogbo armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons to commit armed robbery at various places carting away so many goods which includes DVD player, UPS, generator, phones, TVs, laptops, laptop bag, home theater, woofer speaker, police handcuffs, a pair of shoes, jewelries,  wrist watches, cash, power bank, rechargeable lamp and belts. One of the accused persons was also said to be in the unlawful possession of a Bajaj motorcycle. The seventh accused person Saheed Umoru was said to have received a laptop from Basiru Soliu, having knowledge of the fact that the laptop was stolen.

The Defense Counsel, Barrister Temitope Oyetope stated that Basiru has not pleaded guilty to the tenth count charge against him. He, therefore, applied for bail for Basiru and Saheed in the most liberal terms, stating that Saheed is ready to make himself available till the investigation is concluded and is also ready to stand trial.

However, the Magistrate, Mrs O. A Oloyade granted bail to Saheed based on two hundred and fifty thousand naira with two sureties residing within the court jurisdiction, one of which must be a civil servant not less than level eight. The sureties must also provide three clear passports,  last letter of promotion, tax clearance and valid means of identification. She further stated that the accused person, Saheed must also provide three clear passports to the court’s Registrar and the prosecutor must confirm the addresses of the sureties. She also remanded the other accused persons to Ilesa prison custody and adjourned the case until May 21, 2018.
