A 2018 Governorship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Barr Kunle Adegoke (KRAD), has dismissed recent reports that the Former Osun State Governor and Elder Statesman, Chief Adebisi Akande, backed the people of Osun West Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the State.
There has been growing calls by the people of the zone to produce the governor of the state come 2018. Since the advent on democracy in 1999, Osun West is the only zone that has never produced a governor. Osun Central has had a combined eleven years in power with Chief Adebisi Akande’s four years and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s seven years. Equally the current governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from Osun East will spend his constitutionally allotted eight years.
In an interview monitored on THE SPRING; a 5 questions, 5 minutes weekly interview programme, streamed to thousands of Osun people home and abroad. Barr. Adegoke harped on the issue of zoning vis a vis a recent media report credited to the APC National Leader, Chief Adebisi Akande.
When asked about his view on the said report, KRAD said ”Baba did not back any zone to produce the next governor. What he has said when some people from Osun West met him was that people from Osun West should go and work assiduously to make sure that they produce the next governor for the State of Osun. He has challenged them that it is a duty that they need to go and work on if they actually deserve to produce the next governor.
He backed the idea that it is good for the zone to equally produce the governor but he has said it on many occasion that there is no zone that is not qualified to produce the next governor, the basic thing is that we are going to do primaries in the party and Baba is emphasizing that we need internal democracy within APC and that is what democracy actually reiterates.”
The govenorship hopeful also promised to stick with the ”State of Osun” nomenclature if elected. He said we are copying from the American model as in the case of State of Newyork, State of Iowa, among others. He said it will be a waste to revert back to Osun State since the State of Osun has been adopted.
